Products :: Metronome Explain™

Metronome Explain™ is a powerful, flexible, expandable web analytics package that gives you all the functionality and reporting you'd expect from enterprise level analytics software, plus the ability to create customized reports, analyze specific activity and compare activity across different channels. Explain is more than just a web analytics package, however. Explain is full-featured web-based data mining product, providing on-line analytical processing (OLAP) with the ability to tie your external corporate data to your web information.

Metronome Explain consists of three key components:

  • Data Processing Engine: Allows the dynamic generation of new reports and segmentation on-the-fly using existing data without reloading.
  • Data Store: Stores atomic data about your clickstream traffic, allowing you to add new reports at will.
  • Reporting Suite: Provides a convenient web interface for viewing and interacting with your data.

Metronome Explain comes with over 50 standard reports covering all the basics, such as:

  • Top-line metrics & Dashboards: These reports show the top-line metrics for your website, such as page impressions, visits and unique visitors. They can also be expanded to include custom metrics specific for your site, such as commercial performance.
  • Trending: These reports show the variation of top-line metrics over hours, days, weeks, and years. Custom metrics can also be added to show how these have varied in response to external events such as marketing campaigns.
  • Content Usage: These reports show how content is being used on your site. Simple ranked reports show how often each piece of content has been accessed, the view duration, and associated parameters. This allows for swift popularity based content optimization.
  • Visitor Information: Reports covering every aspect of your site's visitors, including: IP address and/or resolved hostname, time zone, geographical location, client environment (i.e. platform and browser), and event-level details of all of their visits.
  • Navigation: Complete suite of reports covering on-site navigation: from their first page with visit entry reports, through their visit with path analysis and traffic visualization reports, to their final pages and exiting URLs.
  • Referrals & SEO analysis: Reports covering the search engine and search terms that were used, along with details of all identified external referring sites down to the specific referring page.

Flexibility is a key strength of Metronome Explain, and when combined with our easy to use Single-ClickTM segmentation interface, data mining has never been easier!

In addition to the above, new reports can be easily created - often taking only minutes - which can then query data from the Metronome Explain data store. The newly created report will be functional immediately, and can even reference historical data. Metronome Explain is quite rare in its ability to perform post-hoc analysis!

Below are a few common examples of stock reports, but please remember that if the data can be logged, Metronome Explain can report on it!

Path Analysis

Metronome Explain stores detailed path analysis information about all of the visitors to your website. This information can be retrieved and reported on either by individual visitor or in aggregated segments.

3D Traffic Visualization

This report shows how traffic flows through your website.

The report is highly visual and interactive, showing traffic flows in 3D. You can interact with the report by dragging, zooming, and panning the display.

The report includes visualizations of the structural traffic flows, paths to and from site areas, and traffic flows in and out of site sections.

The report is highly customisable, and is constructed as follows:

  • Node size represents the number of pages viewed in the site area.
  • Node slices represent the nature of the visit, such as marketing source driving traffic to the site area.
  • Line thickness represents the volume of traffic between the nodes.
  • Color distribution along the lines, represents the predominant direction of the traffic flow.

Multi-Channel Marketing Analysis

Compare the performance of your marketing channels side-by-side. Our marketing channel reports are extremely flexible, and can be tailored to your exact needs.

Typically, each channel is broken down into four levels:

  • Source: e.g. Natural/Paid Search, email, etc.
  • Publisher: e.g. Google, Yahoo!, etc.
  • Campaign: e.g. Easter breaks, etc.
  • Creative: e.g. email link 2, banner1_230x20, etc.

Unlike cookie-based analysis, where typically only the last marketing can be identified, Metronome Explain includes historical profiling to identify every piece of marketing that a visitor has viewed over a defined time period. This allows Metronome Explain to not only report on direct conversion, but also deferred conversion (showing the duration between response and action), and channel contribution (showing when and what channels were involved in each conversion).

Visit Scoring

This report allows you to assign relative scores to specific actions within a visit to your website, such as internal search, or viewing a product.

For example, scores could be allocated as follows:

  • Home Page = 5 points
  • Search Results = 10 points
  • Registration confirmation = 20 points
  • All other pages = zero points

These scores are then summed, to give an overall score for the visit. Using the above example, a visit that included all of these actions would therefore score 35 points, whereas a visit that only included the home page would score only 5 points. These final visit scores can then be banded or trended.

Visitor Profiling

This is one of the most common ways of segmenting a customer base. It combines the following measures:

  • Recency: The elapsed time since the last purchase made by a customer
  • Frequency: The average time between purchases for a customer
  • Monetary value: The total value of purchases made by a customer
  • Latency: The time between two events, such as first visit and purchase.

Each visitor is then scored based on the above criteria.

Web Survey Integration

The use of web-based surveys allows your business to ask questions of your website visitors.

Integrating these responses with your web analytics allows you to have both qualitative and quantitative data.

Using the power of Metronome Explain, you can truly integrate your survey data, allowing you to segment your web analytics data using your survey responses.

Include demographic questions within your survey, and the results can be combined with Metronome Explain's visitor profiling feature to provide long-term demographic segmentation.

Enterprise Integration

Metronome Explain has a suite of features designed to insure easy integration into your IT infrastructure:

  • Ad-hoc reporting interface
  • ODBC- and Domino-compatible database integration
  • XML-based data export API
  • PDF export of reports
  • Email export of reports as HTML, PDF, RTF, CSV, or XML
